Fairfield Lake was completed and filled in early 1896 as part of the Lake Toxaway Hotel Group’s portfolio of Inns around the sapphire country!

Fairfield Lake covered up the old Georgetown Mine – a gold and gem mine that stood where Camp Merrie Woode does today.

In the late 1980s, the lake was drained to perform maintenance on the dam and parts of the original mine were still in place. Wood bracing for the sluice boxes were easily seen from the walking path.
